FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Microsoft Office?
Microsoft Office is a subscription-based office software and services suite hosted online in the cloud which offers access to various services and software built around the Microsoft Office platform.
Does this replace my Google Account?
No, Google accounts are here to stay. This is a home use convenience for families and students provided by Microsoft.
What is the Cloud?
"The cloud" can simply be described as a metaphor for the Internet. Applications and services hosted in the cloud are all accessible via the Internet and the data stored is held in a remote location. As such, cloud-based applications and services can be accessed from anywhere in the world from a multitude of devices such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and other mobile devices.
What are the primary benefits of Office 365?
Office 365 allows end users to access their documents and files from anywhere in the world and on virtually any device. Moving to a new cloud-based system will enable CUSD families and students to have a wider range of functionality while saving a significant amount of operational expense.
How is Office 365 different from Microsoft Office?
"Office 365" refers to subscription plans that include access to Office applications plus other productivity services that are enabled over the Internet (cloud services), such as Lync web conferencing and additional online storage with OneDrive.
"Microsoft Office" is the name Microsoft still uses for its productivity software. Office suites have traditionally included applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. All the new Office suites include the latest versions of these applications. These suites can be installed on only one PC and do not come with any cloud-based services included in Office 365.
What is OneDrive?
OneDrive provides storage in "the cloud" so that you can keep and share all of your documents, photos and videos even if something happens to your computer or device. OneDrive works with Microsoft Office and also can be accessed across different devices. OneDrive provides unlimited personal cloud storage, meaning, you don't have to worry about running out of space! A common use of OneDrive at schools is for storage of important files, assignments, and lesson plans. It can also be used as a way to collaborate with students, allowing them to "share" assignments with you rather than turning in a hard copy.
What happens when my student graduates from CUSD?
Your CUSD Office 365 subscription ends when your enrollment at a CUSD school terminates. You may enroll in other consumer or commercial offers available. You should make sure to transfer any personal files from your school OneDrive to your personal OneDrive prior to leaving the District.
