MIDDLE SCHOOL PLACEMENT GUIDELINES
The following are the placement guidelines for Accelerated English and Social Science classes at the middle school level. The 9th grade English placement criteria is provided as a reference.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PLACEMENT GUIDELINES

6th Grade
|
All GATE students are placed in courses which offer accelerated language arts and social science content along with other GATE-identified students. Additional students may be added to accelerated classes or clusters if they meet the requirement noted below for 5th grade:
1) Smarter Balanced Scaled Score of 2687

7th Grade
|
All GATE students are placed in courses which offer accelerated language arts and social science content along with other GATE-identified students. Additional students may be added to accelerated classes or clusters if they meet 2 of 3 requirements noted below from 6th grade:
1) Smarter Balanced Scaled Score of 2711 or higher
2) 3.5 GPA in English 6 Acc or 4.0 GPA in English 6
3) iReady 6th grade spring reading score of 658 or above

8th Grade

All GATE students are placed in courses which offer accelerated language arts and social science content along with other GATE-identified students. Additional students may be added to accelerated classes or clusters if they meet 2 of 3 requirements noted below from 7th grade:
1) Smarter Balanced Scaled Score of 2733 or higher
2) 3.5 GPA in English 7 Acc or 4.0 GPA in English 7
3) iReady 7th grade spring reading score of 670 or above

9th Grade

GATE Identification is not considered when placing students into classes at the high school level. The Honors English I placement guidelines are:
1) 3.5 GPA in English 8 Acc or
2) 4.0 GPA in English 8
