The Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) grant from the California Department of Education has allowed CUSD to add additional educational programs and support, focused on the harmful effects of nicotine and vaping. This grant enables the district to implement a comprehensive approach to tobacco-use prevention that incorporates evidence-informed strategies. Through the TUPE funding, Capistrano Unified is not only educating students about the dangers of nicotine and vaping but also promoting youth development and providing intervention strategies. The district utilizes the grant to reinforce tobacco-free environments within schools and to offer cessation programs, ensuring a well-rounded effort to foster healthier, tobacco-free lifestyles among its students.

E-cigarettes are the most commonly used tobacco product among U.S. youth. No tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, are safe, especially for children, teens, and young adults. Learn more about e-cigarette use among youth.
There are many reasons youth might vape. E-cigarette marketing and advertising, the availability of appealing flavors, social influences, and the effects of nicotine all play a role in why youth start and/or continue to vape.
