CAPISTRANO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

An unwavering commitment to student success
There are a number of reasons to stay connected with CUSD, including receiving important news and information about the District and our schools on a regular basis. It is also important to know how to connect with CUSD during an emergency. Below are some ways that you can stay connected to CUSD in real time, 24/7.

SCHOOL MESSENGER

  • If you unsubscribed from school or District emails, you will not receive important updates during an emergency.

In the event of a school or Districtwide emergency, please check these resources first.  They are updated in real-time and will help you get the information you need immediately.

Following this protocol will also help keep phone lines open for staff and first responders.

BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER AN EMERGENCY

BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER AN EMERGENCY

BEFORE AN EMERGENCY
  • Talk to your child about cooperating with and following directions given by the school staff.
  • Update your emergency information with all of your current phone numbers. It is also important to include any carpool contacts.
  • Annually update doctor's orders and recommendations for your child.
  • Ensure any medication stored in the school office for your child is current and there's enough to last for three days.
  • For custody cases, make sure all of the provided information is current and the school office has a copy of the updated court documents.
  • Make sure your child knows how to contact you or another authorized family member.
  • Develop a home emergency plan. For more information on creating a plan, go to Ready OC

DURING AN EMERGENCY
  • Stay calm. Remember that emergency plans are in place and have been tested. Trust that your school and community services personnel will do what is best for your child.
  • PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE SCHOOL SITE. It is necessary to keep school entrances open and accessible for law enforcement and emergency vehicles. Wait for directions from school officials, they will let you know when and where to pick up your child.
  • CUSD will send out automated messages via School Messenger
  • Call the CUSD Hotline at 949-234-5575 for additional information.
  • Fully cooperate with school and law enforcement officials.

AFTER AN EMERGENCY
  • Make sure you have valid identification so you may pick up your child during the student release process.
  • Only send people to pick up your child listed in your Parent Portal.
  • Reunification with your child will take time. Please be patient and follow directions.
